This year my goal has been to finish things. Not even well. Just to finish things that I’ve started. I have a problem actually completing anything. I have endless ideas but I rarely see them through. I’ll work on getting better at things later. For now I just need to actually finish one of them.
So this year I ran a half marathon. My original goal was to run it in under 2 hours without stopping. My time was just over 2 and I had to stop twice to pee. But I finished and I didn’t walk at all except for the two stops I had to make. And my Mom was there to see me finish. So I’m proud of myself.
This year I also started National Sketch Writing Month for the third year in a row. I have never finished and usually give up after the first week because I miss a day and then another and then it seems like too much work to catch up. My original goal was to write every day and to write sketches I’d be proud to show people. Well, I didn’t hit either of those but I did finish despite missing days at a time and going on a week long vacation. So I’m proud of myself.
It feels good to finish something. There’s a certain confidence that comes from knowing you can see something through. I know I can do that now, both physically and mentally. So I can do it again and again at any task I choose.
If you’d like to read my sketches, you can check them out here. I’m most proud of Cat’s Butthole which was inspired by The Master and a joke I had with my sister while we were on vacation. It’s preeeeeety bad. Enjoy!
